Srinagar, Dec 11 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir remained a top Union Territory in generating employment under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) in 2024–25, with 9,863 micro enterprises assisted and an estimated 78,904 jobs created, Union Ministry informed Lok Sabha on Thursday.
The ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises further informed the house that an estimated data was recorded till December-9-2025.
According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), official data reveal that J&K has recorded consistently high numbers under PMEGP over the last four years by assisting 21,648 units in 2021–22, 12,023 in 2022–23, 15,065 in 2023–24 and 9,863 units in the ongoing financial year.
The estimated employment generated during these years stands at 1.73 lakh, 96,184, 1.20 lakh, and 78,904 respectively.
The UT of Ladakh also continues to receive support through the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY).
Under PMMY, J&K has recorded 23.79 lakh loan accounts, with a disbursal of Rs 51,245.86 crore since the scheme’s inception.
Ladakh has registered 69,791 loan accounts, with a total disbursal of Rs 2,090.56 crore—reflecting steady credit access for small and micro entrepreneurs.
The Ministry also said that a special provisions under PMEGP, including higher margin money subsidy of 35 percent in rural and 25 percent in urban areas for SC beneficiaries in comparison to the to 25 percent and 15 percent for general category applicants—(KNO)
